If you know about Toyota motorhomes, you know this is the one. 1993 was the last year of production and they finally got it right. A real full one-ton chassis front to rear, v6 automatic, and an Onan generator! This truck has it all. The interior is light and modern with a rear bath. At 20 foot this motorhome will drive and park as easily as a regular pickup. According to the listing this unit has just 27,098 miles. Sure to provide another easy 100,000 miles of service. The price is going up fast so check with your banker. When the money is this high, you know its worth it.
Here’s a one of a kind find- a 1984 Toyota X-tra cab 4×4 truck fitted with a wrecker body. This truck apparently has been more for show than tow with only 37k miles on it. It sure would be handy for those out of state trips for collecting Toyotas. I wonder if the 1/2 rear axle is HD enough for the job though? If I were to build a truck like this, and I might some day, it would have to have a dually axle at the rear. The service body on this truck is not much wider than the cab so a dually axle would be too wide for it. This truck does not have a wheel lift so a simple sling tow will have to do. A rare and unique find- sure to catch everyone’s eye.
Here is one of those rare 4×4 Toyota motorhomes for sale on Ebay. This is a 1984 Sunraider model. These are pretty small units with a rear dinette and kitchenettes and bath on the side. Sleeping for two above the cab and two more at the back with the dining table removed and seats folded down. 73k original miles is pretty good for an 84 model.
However the bad thing about this unit is the fake dually rear axle. The motorhome is built on the original 1/2 ton 4×4 chassis and the outer rear wheels are simply clamped onto the inner ones. Beyond the weak design of the wheels is the dangerous condition of alot of weight being supported by a 1/2 ton axle. The extra weight of the camper shell alone is pushing the capacity of the axle. With a full load of camping gear and people, and a good bashing on the trail, this axle is sure to fail. A crack in the housing causing the differential to lock at highway speeds is sure to cause a serious accident.
I do appreciate the seller’s honesty is this auction. From what I have read he has been upfront and honest about the vehicle. The buyer is sure to get a rare and interesting Toyota truck, but the first order of business has to be getting the rear axle, wheels, and tires upgraded to 1-ton status. Otherwise it’s just plain unsafe to drive it on or off the road.
